Authorities have announced that two 15-year-olds have been charged with the fatal stabbing of Brianna Ghey, a 16-year-old transgender TikTok personality whose death has made international headlines.

Cheshire Police in the UK announced that the two teenagers, a boy and a girl, would be charged on Wednesday with Ghey’s murder. Ghey was found dead on Saturday afternoon in Linear Park, Culcheth, and the teenagers were arrested the following day.

“The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against both 15-year-olds are now active and that they are entitled to a fair trial. It is extremely important that no information is reported, commented on or shared on line which could in any way impair these proceedings,” Cheshire Police said.

None of the suspects was identified.

Detective Chief Superintendent Mike Evans said Sunday the attack was “targeted” and investigators were looking into whether the death was a hate crime.

“Several investigations are underway in connection with this incident, and we are doing everything we can to establish the exact circumstances of what happened,” Evans said. “At this time, there is no evidence to suggest that the circumstances surrounding Brianna’s death are hate related.”

A GoFundMe page that was set up on behalf of the Ghey family described her as an “outgoing, self-assured girl” and said she “made those who knew her laugh a lot.”

“We have created this page to help the family at this truly devastating time. We need your support to help with funeral costs,” it read.

On Wednesday, thousands of people gathered outside London’s Department of Education to protest violence against transgender people. A vigil was also held that night to mourn his loss.

According to The Sun, Ghey’s friends said she was “bullied at school for years” and that in a TikTok posted just days before her murder, she said she “was excluded from school.”

The video has since been removed.

Emma Mills, headmistress at her school, told The Sun she is “shocked and truly devastated” by her loss.

“It is understandable that this is a very difficult and distressing time for many, and we will do everything we can to support our students and the school community at large,” Mills said, according to the report.

An inquest into the murder is underway and police are asking anyone with information relating to the death to contact Cheshire Police.

“I would ask anyone who has information, no matter how big or small, that they think could help with our investigation, to get in touch,” the chief added. “We are also interested in having people and businesses within the local community check CCTV or dashcam footage for anything that might help our investigation.”
