Seven people were killed in a car accident on the N8 in the Free State.

Seven people were killed and more than 60 injured after a truck and bus collided on the N8 near Thaba Nchu in the Free State on Thursday morning.

Free State Police, Highways and Transport Department spokeswoman Hillary Mophethe said the two drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.

The other five dead were passengers, Mophethe said. She added that 62 passengers suffered serious to minor injuries.

Mophethe said 22 people were transported to Botshabelo Hospital, nine to Moroka Hospital, and six people with serious and moderate injuries were transported to Pelonomi Hospital.

One person who was seriously injured was transported to Life Rosepark Hospital.

“We’re still on the scene. We’ll keep you posted,” Mophethe said.

This is a developing story.
