A Georgia police officer is being hailed a hero after dramatic body cam footage showed how her quick actions helped save a drowning baby.
The calm and quick actions of Senoia Police Department Officer Alexis Callaway are credited with saving the life of a four-week-old baby. Body camera footage shows tense moments as Officer Callaway springs into action after the department received a 911 call for a suffocating infant.
“I saw the baby. I saw that it was the grandmother who had the baby.” Carraway told FOX 5 Atlanta: “I took it. It felt like home and I started going.”

The dramatic body cam footage shows Callaway leading the way to the baby’s house, quickly taking the baby from his grandmother and beginning to administer first aid.
“I’ve been certified since I was 16 and I work with kids and things like that,” Officer Callaway shared with FOX 5.

Officer Callaway began the technique by inverting the baby and repeatedly patting the baby’s back. The four-week-old baby was choking and his grandmother shared that he was limp, according to body camera footage.
“It’s supposed to release anything that might be blocking the airway.” Callway shared, explaining the technique to him. “And you’re supposed to have them angled down to help them lodge.”
After Callaway and a team of paramedics and firefighters administered the lifesaving technique, the baby spit up the liquid and gasped for air, much to the relief of his worried family and first responders.
“It’s gratifying, I think he had a month, now he has the rest of his life,” the officer said.
Officer Alexis Callaway is a resource officer by day, but she patrols the streets of Senoia after school is out. (Fox 5)
Officer Callaway has been on the force for two years and encourages everyone to learn CPR and first aid.

“Avoid what could have been a disastrous outcome, even during that time of chaos, she brought just a sense of calm to the entire incident,” Senoia Police Department Capt. Jason Ercole shared after the incident.
Callway will receive the Senoia Police Department’s lifesaving award at a ceremony in March.
