Capitol Hill, Monrovia – A high-power parliamentary delegation from Lesotho, led by Dr. Karabo Mokobocho, Friday paid a courtesy visit to House speaker Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa and members of the Liberian Legislature to gain valuable insights into the Liberiaโ€™s democratic election and referendum processes. This visit marks a significant step as Lesotho prepares for its upcoming constitutional referendum.

Dr. Mokobocho emphasized the importance of this visit, stating, โ€œLesotho is here to learn from Liberiaโ€™s experience in conducting democratic elections and referendums. As we prepare for our own constitutional referendum, understanding Liberiaโ€™s approach and methodologies is crucial for us.โ€

Deputy Speaker of the Lesotho National Assembly, Hon. Ntโ€™Sepeng Motsieloa, emphasized the purpose of their visit as part of ongoing reforms in Lesotho. She described the delegation’s visit as a peer-to-peer review, aiming to exchange knowledge and best practices in electoral processes and democratic governance.

In a warm reception, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa, welcomed the Lesotho delegation. He expressed his pleasure at seeing another African nation seeking to learn from Liberiaโ€™s experiences. โ€œWe are thrilled to host our Lesotho counterparts and share our experiences. Legislative exchanges like these are essential for fostering democratic development across the continent,โ€ said Speaker Koffa.

The Lesotho delegation includes notable figures such as the Attorney General, the Chief Executive Officer of the Independent Electoral Commission, and representatives from the Lesotho Council of Non-Governmental Organizations, among others from the Lesotho National Assembly.

This visit underscores the commitment of both nations to enhancing democratic practices and fostering collaborative growth within the African continent.
