The State of West Virginia is seeking local government agencies, non-profit groups, and other organizations to help run a summer feeding program for children.
The Department of Education-sponsored program provides free meals to children in low-income areas at places like schools, churches, community centers, swimming pools, parks, libraries, housing complexes, and summer camps.
“Supporting summer feeding sites in your community is one of the most important things you can do to make sure no child goes hungry this summer,” said State Superintendent of Schools David L. Roach in a statement from press. “Children require good quality, consistent nutrition for the development of their minds and bodies. We want to make sure that all children return to the classroom in the fall ready to learn.”
