Bruno Fernandes on Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure from Manchester United

“I don’t feel uncomfortable. I don’t have to choose a side. It was a privilege to play for the national team with Ronaldo and at the club it was a dream come true and I have always said so. Cristiano has always been an inspiration to me. It was a dream but we know that nothing lasts forever. And now Cristiano made a decision for his life and his career and we have to respect each decision.”

Wales place rainbow flags at training corners

They were one of seven countries prevented from wearing the #OneLove armband on Monday. The USMNT has also changed the color of their crest around the training facility.

Maybe FIFA decides that these are also a political symbol…

Lewandowski will stay on penalties with Poland

Poland coach Czeslaw Michniewicz says captain Robert Lewandowski will remain on penalties for Poland despite his miss in yesterday’s 0-0 draw against Mexico.

Based on expected saves, the power and placement of his penalty would still have scored 74 per cent of the time.

“No coach tells a player how to score a penalty. He did two days in training and he did it differently. He made a certain decision during the match, but it’s not the end of the world. Lewy knows how to take penalties. As far as I am concerned, in case of a possible penalty against Saudi Arabia, there will be no change. Unless that’s Robert’s decision.

Mazraoui, injured with Morocco

Phew. That didn’t look good. The Bayern Munich winger is one of Morocco’s most outstanding players, but he needed to be stretchered off at game time.

He received treatment a few minutes ago but fell again. The injury appeared to have arisen from his diving pitch after landing awkwardly. She was grabbing his right shoulder. It’s not a good view. Attait-Allah comes on to replace Mazraoui at left-back in Morocco’s first substitution.

Can World Cup teams replace injured players?

After a few days of action in Qatar, we’ve already seen one serious injury, a couple of concussions and a scare for the England captain.

Lucas Hernández’s World Cup, and probably his season, came to an extremely premature end just 13 minutes after France’s win against Australia. It was confirmed that, in the process of opening the Socceroos’ scoring, the Bayern Munich defender suffered a serious knee injury.

But can they be replaced? explains Ed Mackey.

Luis Enrique, fan of extra time

The Spain coach, Luis Enrique, has a Twitch! How young! How liberated!

He’ll be providing updates from here throughout the tournament and has made some interesting comments about all the extra time we’ve seen so far – over 10 minutes on multiple occasions.

“I love all the added time, especially because teams like us that have a lot of possession always complain that there really isn’t enough time played.

“So I think it’s wonderful to play so much added time in both halves, the most effective time possible (best). Any team can play however they want, but the more quality minutes they play, the better. So I am very much in favor of this measure, it is the right thing to do.”

How far can this team go? Some people are world class: Hakimi, Mazraoui, Ziyech.

According to the athletic one Jacob Tanswell, also Sofiane Boufal.

With Senegal losing their first match and Tunisia only drawing against Denmark, this is a real chance for Morocco.

ICYMI: France defender Lucas Hernandez out of World Cup due to knee injury

France took another injury hit at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, with Lucas Hernandez ruled out of the entire tournament after injuring knee ligaments in Tuesday’s 4-1 win over Australia.

Bayern Munich defender Hernandez, 26, limped off the pitch after injuring his knee in a clash with Mathew Leckie.

The Australian outmaneuvered Hernandez on the ball and delivered the cross for Craig Goodwin’s first goal.

“Like the whole group, the players and the staff, I feel very sorry for Lucas,” Deschamps said in a brief statement from the French FA confirming Hernandez’s injury.

“We are losing an important player. Lucas is a warrior. I know him well and he is a brave player. On behalf of the group, I wish him the best possible recovery.”
