Voice of OC’s partnership with Chapman University’s journalism program was recognized among over 100 companies as one of Chapman University’s Top Employers at the 2025 State of the University address.

It’s the second year that the newsroom’s mentorship of student journalists has been recognized by the university.

“I was talking with our chairman emeritus, Don Sodaro, and we are talking about, who does the university work for? What are the customers of the university? Are the parents? Are the students? And he made it very clear that the real customers are our employers, because we train students, and then they need to find a place in society,” said Daniele Struppa, outgoing President of Chapman University, in his speech at this year’s state of the university address.

“So we are very grateful to all the people, all the companies that you see listed here that trust us to provide them with a strong partner.”

Outside of the classroom, three interns joined the newsroom through the university’s Marshutz Endowed Journalism Award this year – assigned to cover city beats in addition to photojournalism.
