Police are searching for a mother who allegedly left her 2-year-old son unattended with a firearm that went off in her hand.
According to the Prince William County Police Department, officers responded to a home in the 7600 block of Monitor Court in Manassas, Virginia, on Oct. 26 at around 11:33 p.m. to investigate a shooting with injuries.
The investigation revealed that her mother, Christalle Phillips Moat, allegedly left the 2-year-old victim unattended and located an unsecured firearm. While she was handling the firearm, the victim fired a projectile that she hit his hand.

The boy’s injuries were not life-threatening, police said. Police were notified by Child Protective Service that family members and Moat took their son to an area hospital for treatment, but disappeared soon after.
Now, authorities are searching for the boy’s mother, who is charged with felony child neglect.

On Tuesday, following the investigation, detectives obtained warrants for Moat’s arrest. Attempts to locate her have been unsuccessful.
She is described as a black female, 5-foot-1, 105 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
