The rear door of a Russian plane opened mid-flight, sucking passengers’ luggage into a vacuum, the New York Post reported, as passengers on board feared for their lives. The incident took place on an An-26 twin-prop plane belonging to IrAero. As the plane took off in minus 41 degrees from the Siberian city of Magan en route to Magadan on Russia’s Pacific coast, the plane’s door opened midair.

The plane was carrying about 25 people, including six crew members. A video shared by one of the passengers showed the plane’s rear door open as a curtain next to the open door billowed behind him.

None of the passengers were injured in the incident. The cabin was then re-pressurized as the plane turned around and landed successfully again at Magan.
The airline IrAero reported that the opening of the gate of the charter flight occurred at an altitude of 2800-2900 meters. Video of the incident was also shared by Anton Gerashchenko, adviser to the Ukrainian Interior Minister.
“The hatch of the Russian plane AN-26-100 flying to Magadan opened right in the sky. There were 25 people on board. The pilots immediately began landing. A new name for Russian roulette: “Russian plane”? ” he wrote.
