Johannesburg Emergency Medical Services (EMS) say seven more bodies have been recovered from the Jukskei River.
This brings to nine the number of bodies recovered from the river after they were washed away during a church baptism on Saturday night.
EMS spokesman Robert Mulaudzi said on Sunday: “So far, seven bodies have been recovered. This, plus the two bodies that were recovered on Saturday.”
One person was rescued and taken to a nearby health center.

Mulaudzi said the search was going well.
“The conditions in the river are good. Since it hasn’t rained, the river is not too full and the current is not too strong. Rescuers can carry out their work without any problems.”
