A 17-year-old Turkish teenager was found alive under rubble in Turkey on Friday, four days after a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck the country and Syria, killing more than 22,000 people.

Adnan Muhammed Korkut was able to move around a bit in the collapsed basement of an apartment building until he was rescued by rescuers in the southern Turkish city of Gaziantep on Friday, Fox News’ Greg Palkot reports on the scene.

“I just waited for all of you to arrive alone. Thank God you arrived, thank you all,” Korkut said as he lay on a stretcher.

“God bless my son, he doesn’t leave me alone for an hour,” said his mother, who managed to escape the collapse of the building. “May they all be blessed too.”

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday described the earthquake as “one of the biggest disasters our nation has faced in its history,” according to The Associated Press.

He added that the Turkish government will pay rent for a year to people who have been displaced by the disaster and do not want to live in tents, the news agency also reported.
