An “open house” in Florida attended by more than 100 people resulted in criminals ramming a police vehicle before leading officers on a chase that ended in a deadly crash.
Deputies were called to the Sol Terra community in Davenport around 1 a.m. Saturday because of a large party that sparked fights in the streets, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said.
Agents did not see any fighting when they arrived on scene, but found a large party with more than 150 children and adults on the street and neighboring yards, and approximately 75 people inside a short-term rental home.
An ambulance was called to take a severely intoxicated person for medical treatment. As an officer tried to clear the way for emergency medical services, they approached a Range Rover with completely blacked-out windows and tried to talk people inside the vehicle out of the way. However, the people inside the Range Rover did not speak to the officer or roll down their windows.

The officer went to the rear of the Range Rover and noticed that it had a temporary tag that expired in 2022.
As the officer attempted to note the license plate number, the Range Rover took off and brushed the side of the officer’s patrol vehicle on its way.
The officer did not pursue the Range Rover because there were too many cars blocking the streets, but he notified PCSO of the hit and run.
The van was located by agents not at the scene of the party parked next to a 7-Eleven.
As officers approached, the Range Rover took off and officers gave chase.
The vehicle entered Osceola County, where the officer stopped pursuing it.
The suspects’ vehicle ran into a four-way stop sign, drove around three stopped cars, drove through the intersection and into another vehicle, killing a 27-year-old man inside, Sheriff Grady Judd said. .

He and backup officers gave chase and were able to apprehend three suspects who have criminal records. Judd says there may be a fourth suspect, but he was unable to provide additional details on that potential person.
