The former chaplain to Queen Elizabeth II has warned that King Charles III’s multifaith multiculturalism threatens to destroy his own home and bring down the British monarchy.
“I think if this slow movement towards multiculturalism and multireligion continues, we will lose the monarchy, because in the end, I don’t think it is true to itself,” Gavin Ashenden, who served as the queen’s chaplain. from 2008 to 2017, he told Britain’s GB News on Sunday.
Ashenden’s comments were in response to the king’s first Royal Christmas Message since he assumed the throne following his mother’s death in September.
“The problem is that it’s a bit like watching a wonderful ship slowly sink below the waterline, and at some point what you want to do is keep it from sinking and make sure it floats,” Ashenden said. “And I don’t think the monarchy can float if it becomes a multicultural, multifaith monarchy.”

Acknowledging that King Charles III did “exceptionally well” with his first Christmas speech, Ashenden said British subjects have, however, witnessed “a gradual and very slow change from being a Christian monarchy to a multi-religious one.”
“The problem is that either you are a defender of the faith or you are not,” in reference to the oath taken by the British monarch to defend the Protestant religion.
The British monarch, among other duties, is the supreme governor of the Church of England.
“There is a lot about Christianity that is directly responsible for our way of life in our culture,” said Ashenden, who later warned that Christians in the UK are increasingly marginalized.

Ashenden, who resigned from his role as chaplain in 2017 after condemning recitations of the Qur’an during an Epiphany service at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Glasgow, pointed to how Christianity is increasingly being pushed out of the public square because of its exclusive claims amid “serious competition for power.”
“So the problem we have right now is Christianity is under attack,” Ashenden said. “Now the question is, what does a Christian king do about it? Does a Christian king save Christianity? Does he become a defender of the faith, which is what his title really is?
