Juan Rose Martin is in her final year studying Business Administration at Nkumba University in Entebbe, Uganda. Her journey to this point is paved by personal growth and leadership development, largely influenced by her time at the Leadership Academy of South Sudan (LASS).
Juan served as the welfare minister at LASS. The welfare minister is responsible for ensuring the meals for the students are served on time and of the best quality and quantity, as well as communicating any special dietary needs that students may have to the kitchen staff. Through this role, Rose learned how to manage people, handle conflict, be held accountable, and how to balance expectations of both the students and the kitchen staff. This experience inspired her to take the skills and principals she learned at LASS and develop them further by pursuing leadership roles at Nkumba University.
While studying business administration at Nkumba University, Rose immersed herself in various business ventures. Fueled by the desire to make a positive impact and contribute meaningfully to her community, she was elected and served as the campus coordinator from 2022 to 2024.
During her time as the campus coordinator, Rose acquired valuable skills such as effective communication, decision-making, strategic thinking, team building, emotional intelligence, and accountability. These experiences sharpened her leadership abilities and further equipped her for future challenges and roles. It was a cherished role for Rose, reflecting her dedication towards leadership and service that began at LASS.
Looking ahead, Rose plans to graduate and apply her degree in business administration in areas such as strategic planning or project management. Committed to continuous learning and development, Rose seeks to contribute to organizational success through innovative strategies and effective leadership.
Her favorite Bible verse, Isaiah 60:22, serves as a guiding light, reminding her that everything unfolds in its own time, under God’s higher plan.
“The least of you will become a thousand, the smallest a mighty nation. I am the LORD; in its time I will do this swiftly.”
Rose’s pivotal two-year stay at LASS was instrumental in shaping her leadership trajectory, laying a solid foundation for her future endeavors. With determination and resilience, she embraces the opportunities that lie ahead, confident in her ability to make a positive difference in her community and beyond.
