A suspected illegal immigrant stole a steamroller from a private ranch in Texas and drove away with the vehicle until it ran out of fuel.

According to Fox News’ Bill Melugin, the suspect snuck into the brush at a private ranch in Kinney County, which is along the Texas-Mexico border, and stole the steamroller.

The suspected illegal immigrant drove the vehicle about six miles, crossed a highway and headed to a neighboring ranch until he ran out of gas. He was never arrested.

Fox News has reached out to the Kinney County Sheriff’s Office for additional details.

Kinney County was also the scene of a high-speed chase last week involving a Texas State Trooper and a smuggler carrying three illegal immigrants.

Video shared by Texas DPS on Wednesday shows a police officer being led on a high-speed chase on US-90 in Kinney County. The driver reached speeds of 120 mph before losing control and crashing into a utility pole in front of a US Border Patrol checkpoint.

The driver and passenger, both from Austin, Texas, admitted they were being paid $9,000 to smuggle three illegal immigrants from Honduras to Austin. Both were charged with human smuggling, evading arrest, and involvement in organized criminal activity.

President Biden said Wednesday that it was his “intent” to visit the US-Mexico border amid a record number of border crossings.

The president made those remarks at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, saying he intended to visit the border during his trip to the North American Leaders Summit on Jan. 9-10. That would mark Biden’s first trip to the border during his presidency.

The potential trip comes amid an unprecedented crisis on the southern border. So far in fiscal year 2023, there have been a total of 617,250 encounters with migrants, according to Customs and Border Protection (CBP) sources. In fiscal year 2022, encounters with migrants exceeded 2.3 million.

President Biden has been repeatedly chided for not visiting the border. Earlier last month, the president said “bigger things were happening” when asked why he would visit a border state but not the US-Mexico border.
