South African Indian heritage will be further boosted as a new radio station goes live this Friday.
The radio station, known as Southside FM, will focus on South Indian culture and music and invite everyone to tune in.
Station manager Dinesh Naidoo said: “We have already started testing the lines and making last minute adjustments from May 6 until we start at 6am Friday May 13 on 107.2FM in and around Durban and let’s broadcast live This station is mandated to play Tamil, Telugu, English and isiZulu music with value-added content for the wider South African community.”
Naidoo added that a tremendous effort has been put in behind the scenes to prepare the station. Work completed to date includes the following:

- Completion of the construction and installation of a state-of-the-art radio station.
- Implementation of the governance structure and organization of the station.
- Employment of an operations team.
- Incorporation of a main sponsor.
- Media campaign (print and digital).
- Content Completion (The station has finalized a wide range of content ranging from health and wellness advice, business guidance, arts and culture, public affairs, leadership in collaboration with musicians, artists and community leaders from the South Indian diaspora ).
Southside FM South Africa is not religiously aligned and welcomes all religions and racial groups to make this station a success.
Southside FM is for the community and welcomes active participation and contributions (either monetary or volunteer time).
The station is not for profit and is being run by a group of people who do not receive a fee for their efforts.
Weekday morning show host Meshantan Naidoo said: “The team is excited to kick off Friday morning at 6am Revathi Pillay and I have an amazing surprise for our listeners when ‘The Big Breakfast’ comes out on air for the first time.
