Socceroos head coach Graham Arnold has named his 26-man squad to represent Australia at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.
Goalkeeper Mathew Ryan will captain the team in Qatar in what will be his third FIFA World Cup, with Mathew Leckie the other player in the squad selected to represent Australia at a FIFA World Cup for the third time.
This year’s tournament will be the second FIFA World Cup for Aziz Behich, Milos Degenek, Jackson Irvine, Jamie MacLaren, Aaron Mooy and Bailey Wright, with seventeen players selected in a FIFA World Cup squad for the first time.
Head coach Graham Arnold said the Socceroos are going to Qatar full of pride and confidence after four challenging years.
“It has been a unique and difficult qualifying campaign and now we come to Qatar with an exciting team that will do everything they can to make Australia proud on the world stage,” said Arnold.

“In the last four years, 32 players have debuted for the national team. I want to thank all the players who have helped the team on this journey. We have called up 68 players during the qualifying campaign and each one of them has played an important role in getting us here.”
“Our team composition reflects Australia’s multicultural landscape. Our boys come from all over the world, they all have different journeys, but we are united by a jersey,” said Arnold.
After securing qualification for the fifth consecutive FIFA World Cup, sixth appearance in total, the Socceroos will look to progress through the group stage for the first time since 2006.
The team features nine members of the 2020 Tokyo Olyroos squad in Nathaniel Atkinson, Keanu Baccus, Thomas Deng, Cameron Devlin, Joel King, Riley McGree, Kye Rowles, Harry Souttar and Mitchell Duke as the senior player.
“We have worked hard to give the younger players a chance during the campaign, to expose them to international football, to test them against the best and I am delighted with the development and maturity of this group that now has the opportunity on stage. larger. possible,” Arnold said.
The Socceroos kick off their FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ campaign against defending champions France at Al Janoub Stadium on Tuesday, November 22 at 10:00pm local time / Wednesday, November 23 at 6:00am AEDT .
