  • Fulcrum Sharks mainstay Thomas du Toit says nothing is yet set in stone regarding reports that he is targeting English Premiership side Bath.
  • Du Toit’s contract with the Sharks expires at the end of the current season.
  • The Sharks will lose World Cup-winning Springbok captain Siya Kolisi, who heads to Racing 92 later this year.

Sharks talisman Thomas du Toit says he “hasn’t signed anything” even after reports emerged linking him with English Premiership team Bath.

Du Toit, who captained the Sharks previously, has been a mainstay for the Sharks and was on the 2019 World Cup-winning Springbok team.

Bath were reportedly courting the hard-headed, and at times loose-headed, after his contract expired at the end of the current season.

“Regarding my future, I have not signed anything,” Du Toit said.

“My contract with the Sharks runs out at the end of this season, so that’s all the information I can give.

“Nothing is set in stone yet.”

The Sharks are already set to lose Bok captain Siya Kolisi, who heads to French club Racing 92 at the World Cup final in France later this year.

Kolisi is the captain of the Sharks in this season’s Champions Cup, where they will face Bordeaux at Kings Park on Saturday (17:15).

Du Toit said Kolisi’s departure and rumors of other players possibly leaving were not on his mind, nor did he push the team to make its all-star squad worthwhile by winning a trophy this season.

“It’s important that everyone here in the union focus on what’s happening here,” Du Toit said.

“It’s very important for us to do well in the competitions we’re currently involved in. It’s not something that’s been talked about a lot because our focus is hopefully winning the URC and the Heineken Cup as well.”

“The other is passing into the background compared to what is important to us.”
