Ekurhuleni Mayor Tania Campbell.

  • Ekurhuleni Mayor Tania Campbell has announced her new executive.
  • Campbell, who was ousted in a vote of no confidence against her in October, he was re-elected mayor last week.
  • The mayor says her office now faces garbage collection problems and a water crisis that her executive needs to urgently address.

DA members make up the majority of Ekurhuleni Mayor Tania Campbell’s new executive committee.

Campbell was re-elected mayor of Ekurhuleni last week.

Seven people appointed to its executive were DA councillors, with three seats bagged by coalition partners.

The DA has a coalition agreement with four other political parties in Ekurhuleni.

ActionSA recently indicated that it would withdraw from the coalition agreement in Ekurhuleni, leaving the DA to rule with the IFP, ACDP, Freedom Front Plus and Cope.

The newly appointed mayor’s committee:

MMC for Finance: Fanyana Nkosi (DA)

KMC for Health and Social Development: Jennifer Glover (FF Plus)

MMC for transport planning: Mabekenyane Thamahane (DA)

MMC for Water, Sanitation and Energy: Senzi Sibeko (DA)

MMC for Real Estate: Tambo Mokoena (ADCP)

MMC for Corporate and Shared Services: Golden Maduana (DA)

MMC for Human Settlements: Alco Ngobese (IFP)

MMC for Urban Planning: Heather Hart (DA)

MMC for Environmental and Waste Management Services: Brandon Pretorius (DA)

KMM for Community Safety: Khathutshelo Rasilingwane (DA)

Campbell was ousted in a vote of no confidence in October, sponsored by the ANC, which accused her office of neglecting the provision of services on the tube.

There has been growing concern about poor garbage collection and interruptions to water and electricity.

However, Campbell was re-elected last week after coalition talks between the ANC and the EFF failed.

Campbell said his new mayor’s committee would address the issues facing the city.

“Upon resuming office last week, I made a commitment to the residents of Ekurhuleni that my office would go live. I have taken decisive action on a number of issues, particularly the waste crisis, which is now being addressed with the urgency that is deserves it,” he said.

“Today I would like to announce to my MMC team that I will lead their respective departments in a direction that builds on the great work we have accomplished so far. These individuals have been appointed based on their abilities and I am confident that they will lead their departments with the respect and dignity of their office,” Campbell said.
