A Boise police officer shot and killed a man Monday as law enforcement officers tried to detain the man on suspected felony charges, according to police.

At about 4:30 p.m. Monday, city police officers and fugitive recovery agents from the Idaho Department of Correction were searching for the man in West Boise, the Boise Police Department said in a statement.

The officers were trying to get the man out of a car when police said he pulled out a gun. A Boise officer “was forced to discharge his weapon, striking the suspect,” who died at the scene, police said.
