Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano erupted again Thursday, with photos showing lava pooling inside its summit crater, the US Geological Survey said. The eruption comes less than a month after it ended its previous eruption.

The Hawaii Volcano Observatory detected lava glowing within the Halemaumau crater in the volcano’s summit caldera via webcam images, indicating that Kilauea had begun to erupt.

The summit of the volcano is within the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and is not near any residential communities.

Kilauea is one of the most active volcanoes in the world with its previous eruption lasting 16 months starting in September 2021.

Hawaii had two volcanoes erupt side by side last year, for about two weeks, when Mauna Loa erupted for the first time in 38 years.

The shared eruption lasted for about two weeks beginning on November 27, with both volcanoes halting at about the same time.
