Philadelphia police released surveillance video of a man entering a store and hitting a person with a hammer before taking their money, hoping the public could identify the suspect.
According to police, an employee opened a business on N. 5th Street at 9 a.m. on November 25, 2022.
Philadelphia police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who punched a clerk at a store on N. 5th Street before he was handed money from the register.

An unknown man told the clerk in Spanish that he was waiting for the store to open so he could play a video game inside, police said.

The clerk entered the store and was followed by the suspect, who pushed the clerk behind the counter and snatched a hammer from his waist.
The suspect then demanded money, police said, and hit the victim in the back with a hammer, causing bruises.
The clerk searched the register and handed over an unknown amount of money, police added, before the suspect fled the scene.

Police are asking anyone with information on the suspect to call or text 215-686-8477, adding that all leads will remain anonymous.
