  • The ANC will wait until Friday to see if the side step rule will apply to Sibusiso Kula.
  • Kula is accused of killing his wife, Jennifer Mohlomi, at their home in Kanana.
  • He will appear at Orkney Magistrate Court for a bond hearing on Friday.

ANC leader Pemmy Majodina says the ruling party will wait to hear the outcome of ANC MP Sibusiso Kula’s bail request on Friday before deciding on any domestic appeal.

Kula is accused of killing his wife, Jennifer Mohlomi, 31, at their home in Kanana, northwest, two months ago.

Kula allegedly lied to the police about what happened to his wife the night she was stabbed to death.

He is charged with premeditated homicide.

Majodina spoke to News24 at the funeral of Frene Ginwala, a staunch activist for women’s rights.

If Kula is denied bail, his position as deputy will be left vacant.

Majodina said the stepping aside rule was very clear, but added that the party would only have clarity on its position on Friday.

The sidestep rule is an internal policy of the ANC, in which its members must withdraw from participation in the party and government if they are accused of corruption or other serious crimes.

She said she had already drafted her arguments if she was denied bail.

“This is a very serious matter, especially in light of the party’s stance on gender-based violence. But we must wait for the process to run its course before taking any action.” [against him].”

Women’s rights have been included in the Constitution’s Bill of Rights.

Many of these rights were attributed to the Women’s Charter, which came from the Ginwala leadership.
