The parents of well-known rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes have expressed their “extreme sadness” over the loss of their son.

Tony and Lynn Forbes are awaiting further details from the Durban police.

“Our son was loved and he gave love in return. In this moment of pain, we appeal to his compassion, space and time to gather as a family to decide on the next few days, ”they said in a statement sent to News24.

“For many, it was AKA, SUPERMEGA, BHOVA and many other names,” they said. But to them, he was Kiernan Jarryd Forbes: son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, friend, and most importantly, father of his daughter Kairo.

“We thank you for the love and support we have received thus far and we ask that you continue to keep us in your prayers and lifted up in the Lord,” the parents added.

AKA was shot dead, along with another man, at a popular nightspot on Florida Road, Durban, around two hours before midnight.

According to a first responder who spoke on condition of anonymity, Forbes was shot while standing on the sidewalk shortly after 10 p.m.

ALS Paramedic Medical Services spokesman Garrith Jamieson said resuscitation efforts at the scene were unsuccessful.

Forbes was supposed to be performing in town on Friday night. There were jovial scenes earlier in the evening in footage posted to Instagram as the rapper raised a toast to a table full of friends.

KwaZulu-Natal Police spokesman Robert Netshiunda previously confirmed that a “known rapper” had been shot dead on Florida Road, Durban, on Friday just after 10pm. The police investigate a double murder.
