Right prop Neethling Fouche, a United Rugby Championship (URC) winner with the Stormers, has extended his contract with the Cape-based franchise for a further three years.

A regular for both the Western Province and the Stormers, Fouche has plied his trade at the Cape for the past six seasons and has built a reputation as a fearsome scrummager and contributor across the rugby pitch.

To date, Fouche has played 33 times for Western Province and has 46 games with the Stormers to his credit.

Speaking after the announcement of Fouche’s new contract, Stormers head coach John Dobson said Fouche brought a lot to his team.

“Neethling has worked hard on his game over the last six years here, and we’ve all seen the results,” Dobson said.

“He brings a lot to the team in all aspects of the game. His basics are solid and he’s as physical as he comes, but he also has a good rugby brain, which is invaluable.”

“We look forward to seeing where Neethling can go in what is usually the best period for players at his position,” Dobson added.

Fouché, 30, said he was more than happy to continue his career at the Cape.

“There’s nowhere I’d rather be playing my rugby right now, and there’s a lot to be excited about moving forward as a member of this team,” Fouche said.

“How lucky we are to play rugby for a living. I want to continue to challenge myself to the highest possible standards while enjoying what I do, and wherever that takes me, I’ll be happy.”
