A woman shot and killed a suspected carjacker in self-defense last month as he tried to drive away in a North Las Vegas neighborhood, police said this week, according to a report.

The victim and a friend had parked near another friend’s house while waiting to get in for an early Thanksgiving dinner on Nov. 19 when a car pulled up in front of them, they told the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, according to FOX. 5 Vegas.

Two or three men got out of the car and allegedly pulled the woman from the driver’s seat and her friend from the passenger side. One of the suspects got in but didn’t know how to drive it because it was push to start.

When the victim realized the suspect had placed the gun in her lap to uncover the car, she grabbed it and ran, telling her friend to run too.

When she tried to run away, the suspect accosted her and wouldn’t let her go. She turned and fired at him, police said.

He then ran and hid in the side yard of a home when a second suspect began shooting at him. He fled before the police arrived and found the suspect dead in the street, bleeding from the head.

She was detained, but was released without arrest when police determined that she had acted in self-defense.
