Royal AM head coach Khabo Zondo has said that it is to South Africa’s advantage to have a coach of the caliber of Pitso Mosimane.
- Mosimane had success with Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly
- Zondo explains why it is important to South Africa
- Mosimane carries out initiatives to foster talent at the grassroots level
WHAT HAPPENED? Mosimane is a decorated African manager who has led different clubs and the South African national team.
With Mamelodi Sundowns, he guided them to Premier Soccer League successes, as well as Caf Champions League and Caf Super Cup crowns.
Following his time with Masandawana, he was appointed as the head coach of Al Ahly and had a successful 21-month stint with the Egyptian team. He led them to Champions League glory in two consecutive seasons and also won the Super Cup.
Given these achievements and their impact, Zondo feels Mosimane is a great coaching asset for South Africa.
WHAT HAS BEEN SAID: “How can we improve ourselves and the competition that we all face when your team does well and puts itself in a position where we are also going to play in the Champions League or the Confederation Cup?” Zondo asked.
“I mean, it’s moved quite, quite high. It’s very interesting to see that the person you’ve been with within the club has picked up so much information, which is good for us as a country.”
“He has moved on and has achieved a lot. It is a plus for this country to have a person like him. The way he has structured his team, his coaching staff, and getting the South Africans to that level, is another factor.” too, but we are learning a lot from what Pitso has done.
“We already know from the courses we have taken that Pitso has always been a hard worker. He always wants to go out and find out things that are not seen in football.
“Pitso will come out and want to know what his opponent eats and how the opponent sleeps. You will say, but why? Look today, being more involved and wanting more is giving him success.”
THE LARGEST PHOTOGRAPH: The former Bafana Bafana manager is also involved in the development of youth football.
He has started the Pitso Mosimane Soccer Schools (PMSS), a project that has the mission of nurturing talent from six to 18 years of age.
WHAT NEXT FOR MOSIMANE? The tactician has been on a break and will return to club action with Al Ahli on December 15, when they take on Al Ain in a first division duel.
