The remains of a man have been recovered in Chicago after a van containing the body was stolen from a funeral home 90 miles away over the weekend.
The body of the 47-year-old man was located Monday night in the 8200 block of South Manistee on the city’s south side, the Rockford Police Department said.
Police have released surveillance photos of a man they say is wanted in connection with the theft of the Chrysler Town & Country van outside the Collins & Stone funeral home in Rockford.
Investigators recovered the van in the 1400 block of East 87th Street in Chicago late Sunday, but the man’s body was still missing.

Police released surveillance footage of a suspect in the theft of a funeral home van containing a body on Saturday.

The body was discovered the next day about 2.5 miles from where the van was located, FOX32 Chicago reported.
Police did not release additional details about the suspect.

Authorities asked anyone with information about the suspect or the robbery to contact Rockford police.

Meanwhile, the funeral director has a history of violations including unprofessional conduct, failing to submit death certificates in a timely manner, and aiding and assisting in an unlicensed practice, the station reported.

The director was reportedly fined $10,000 in 2021 and placed on a two-year probationary period that runs through May 2023.
