A Michigan man is accused of assaulting the mother of his son after he was released from jail on bail.

Detroit police say 22-year-old Torrion Hudson shot a woman in the neck at a local gas station on December 21 and was jailed on $1 million bail, according to FOX Detroit.

During a December 28, 2022 hearing, Hudson’s bond was lowered to $250,000, which was uncontested during another bond hearing on January 5, according to the Detroit News.

Hudson posted the $250,000 bail through a bail bondsman and has been under house arrest with GPS monitoring since Jan. 11. The Wayne County District Attorney’s Office tried to stop the court from reducing Hudson’s bail, but a judge allowed the bail to be reduced, according to FOX Detroit.

Police say Hudson hit the mother of his son on January 28, adding that he was back in jail on Tuesday. Detroit police have not released details about the alleged assault. According to the Detroit News, the woman is in serious condition at a local hospital.

During a news conference Monday, Detroit Police Chief James White raised the arguments around bail reform to help nonviolent offenders, but said Hudson “is not a nonviolent offender. He is about someone who has now victimized three women in our community. “

Kyla Moore, 19, was the woman Hudson allegedly shot on December 21, according to police. However, Hudson is also accused of shooting and beating an 18-year-old woman on December 20, but authorities say the woman was too scared to cooperate with police at the time.

Keta Moore, Kyla’s mother, said Hudson did what everyone thought he would do if he got out of jail.

“We knew. It’s only a matter of time. Just like a thief, they will always steal, and a criminal will always be a criminal,” Keta said. “He’s violent and you would let a violent offender back on the streets to re-victimize himself. He did exactly what everyone thought he was going to do.”

Kyla added that her daughter has not fully recovered from the December shooting.

“Her breathing isn’t 100%. She’s having trouble breathing. We just hope that in time she’ll heal, or she’ll need another procedure,” Keta said.
