A Memphis city councilman is calling for the firing of a police officer seen on body cam video shooting Tire Nichols and stating he expects other officers to “stomp on his ass.”
In one of four videos released by Memphis officials on Friday, an unidentified officer can be seen telling Nichols to “get on the ground” before electrocuting him.
“You guys are really doing a lot right now,” Nichols can be heard saying.
After Nichols is seen running away, the same officer can be heard on body cam video saying, “I hope he gets stomped on his ass.”

Memphis Councilman JB Smiley Jr. called on Memphis police to fire the unidentified officer Saturday afternoon in a statement.
“The officer who tasered Tire Nichols and forced other officers to stomp on him needs to be fired. We must end the culture that allows excessive use of force and assumes it is commonplace,” said Smiley Jr.
In a separate tweet, Smiley Jr. said the unidentified officer should be charged along with the other five officers.

Nichols died days after a traffic stop turned violent on January 7. Memphis police say Nichols was arrested for alleged “reckless driving.” .
As officers caught up with Nichols, police say another confrontation occurred, prompting Nichols to complain of difficulty breathing.

“While trying to detain the suspect, another confrontation occurred; however, the suspect was ultimately apprehended,” MPD said. “Afterward, the suspect complained of having difficulty breathing, at which point he was called for an ambulance.”
Nichols was transported to St. Francis Hospital in Memphis in critical condition and later died on January 10.

Memphis Police Department officers Demetrius Haley, Tadarrius Bean, Emmitt Martin III, Desmond Mills and Justin Smith were fired Jan. 18 for their roles in the arrest of the late Tire Nichols.

In another video, you can see the officers punches, kicksand hitting Nichols with a cane multiple times.
Five former Memphis police officers were fired after the incident and are being charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault and other charges.
After Memphis officials released the body camera videos, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office placed two of its deputies on administrative leave.
