A 40-year-old man is expected to appear in Nebo Magistrate Court on kidnapping and murder charges on Friday after the discovery of the decomposed body of EFF Limpopo member Thobile Skosana.
Skosana’s lifeless body was found in a river in Khathazweni, on the outskirts of Hlogotlou, on Thursday. She was last seen attending an event on New Year’s Eve in the Zaaiplaas village of Holnek.
Police spokesman Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said Hlogotlou police had received information that led to the arrest and discovery of Skosana’s body.
EFF Limpopo Chairman Tshilidzi Maraga said the party was saddened by the death of Skosana, who was a member of the party.
She said she was not aware of a relationship between Skosana and the alleged killer, adding that the party understood the man to be a local.
He added that the party would attend the court appearance and demand the maximum penalty.
She said:
The perpetrator should receive a harsh sentence so that those who want to repeat the same crime can learn from him that there is no tolerance for such crimes.
“The government must do more than promise. It must also implement. Perpetrators commit these crimes, appear in court and are released on bail the next day.”
In a statement issued by the party, Maraga added that the police had failed Skosana: “The police have failed us once again to find [Thobile] alive despite our request that maximum resources be deployed to help trace Thobile’s whereabouts.”
Meanwhile, police have intensified their search for the person responsible for the murder of a woman whose body was found in a toilet in Thohoyandou.

The 35-year-old woman, identified as Avhurengwi Rambuda, was found murdered in the village of Mukula on Tuesday, said Col. Malesela Ledwaba, a police spokesman.
She was last seen on Friday, December 30.
A relative found her body, wrapped in a blanket, on an unused toilet seat, Ledwaba said. He had cuts on his body and his hand was missing.
“The police ask Azwimpheleli Mashau to go to the nearest police station to help with the investigations,” he said.
