A recently adopted rescue dog from Texas ran away from her new owners and made the 10-mile trip back to her old animal shelter, where she rang the doorbell in the middle of the night.
“As we know, dogs are amazing,” the El Paso Animal Rescue League posted on Facebook. “Bailey made her own way back to ARL and rang our doorbell at 1:15 a.m. saying she wanted to come in. Staff rushed to the shelter and put Bailey on her way. She was very happy and so were we.” .
The rescue center issued an alert last month asking El Paso residents to keep an eye out for Bailey, telling readers she is a “very friendly” pup.
What the group and her foster family didn’t know at the time was that the husky mix was making the roughly 10-mile drive through busy intersections in the span of two days back to the animal rescue center, using only her nose and a mental map of the area, KARE 11 reported.

Bailey arrived at the center in the middle of the night and summoned her former caretakers by ringing the doorbell.

“I’ll be damned, at 1:42 in the morning she’s ringing the doorbell like, ‘I’m home,'” Loretta Hyde, the league’s founder, told USA Today. “Ring’s camera kept going off and on… and you’ll see on the video that she’s running, sitting, waiting for someone to come.”

When one of the other shelter employees saw the pup on the Ring camera, the worker said his name over the speaker and “boomed, right into the camera,” Hyde recounted.
“‘I’m here, let me in, where are you?'” Hyde said of what must have been going through the dog’s mind when he rang the doorbell.

A staff member rushed to the location to take Bailey inside, and she slept through the night, according to Hyde.
“He slept so soundly all night,” Hyde said. “The next morning, she said, ‘You can serve me breakfast there. I’ll have it in a minute. I’m still resting.’ So, three days without food or water, I mean, I was making up for her rest.”

Bailey is now home with her new family.
“It was such a happy ending for all of us,” Hyde said.
