A couple driving along the coast of Scotland found themselves running on what they determined to be the most dangerous road in the world.
Wendy Farrar and her husband Stephen, from the United Kingdom, drove along the coastal road in Gardenstown, Scotland, which overlooks the North Sea and lies between the United Kingdom, Denmark, and Norway. The couple had booked a holiday home at the end of October and had to drive on a road that skirted a small cliff overlooking the sea, so close that the waves could crash against it.
The road itself was also very narrow with just enough room for the car to pass. Farrar told Scotland’s The Daily Record that the journey was “the scariest journey ever” and “not for the faint of heart”.
Farrar’s husband drove down the road before telling her that waves had gotten water into the car as she inched forward to avoid slipping off the edge. The drop seemed to go about 10 feet and then into the water.

“It was a very steep path down to the fishing port,” Farrar said. “As you turn around, you drive through a small little port which is beautiful, so we saw the road we had to go.”

“We thought ‘Oh my gosh, that’s a big drop,'” he continued. “It was amazing. We said it’s probably the best place we’ve ever stayed.”

The couple opted to park by the harbor and walk to the cabin for the rest of their stay, but later saw a truck drive past their cabin and found it unbelievable that the driver could regularly make such a trip.
In another video taken on February 1, Brian James Reid and his wife drive down the same seaside road with waves crashing across it as cars pass by. Reid is more confident than Farrar’s husband, and rides through the wave as his wife yells at him to “stop” and he just laughs.

Reid said he had “booked a vacation rental [rental] in Gardenstown, but did not realize that access depended on such a narrow and dangerous path.
