Goal! Oh no, it’s not.
Issam Jebali thought he had broken Denmark’s offside trap when a long ball was played forward and ran in to finish off Schmeichel, but the assistant referee raised a flag too late. Definitely offside.

Denmark looks threatening from set pieces
Denmark have excellent delivery in Christian Eriksen and Andreas Skov-Olsen, and plenty of trees to aim for. Fortunately for Tunisia, they are not exactly a small team either.

Tunisia may have the strongest home away support in the World Cup

Tunisia has a diaspora of 30,000 in Qatar and you can already feel their support
When you factor in traveling supporters, they’ll likely have the most support at home away from home.

The hostile crowd is affecting the Danes.
Every time Denmark is in possession for more than three seconds, the whistles are almost deafening around Education City Stadium. It must be almost impossible for the Danes to hear each other, which is perhaps why they have had trouble getting going from the start.

Tunisia is coming!
Mohamed Drager’s long-range shot deflects sharply from Andreas Christensen and whistles off Kasper Schmeichel’s post. So close!

Tunisia continues #haveago
It would be a slight exaggeration to suggest that Denmark seem restless, but Tunisia’s intensity is certainly contributing to several passes ending up off target.

Tunisia starts brightly!
It’s only been 5 minutes here, but Tunisia have had the best of the opening exchanges. It will be interesting to see if they can maintain this high-octane intensity throughout!

The teams are out!
Denmark typically look great in their usual Hummel kit, complete with an “invisible” badge highlighting the thousands of migrant worker lives lost in the build-up to this World Cup.
The anthems are over and we are minutes away from KO!

view from the ground
This is very much like a Tunisian home game. There were barely any Danish flags to be seen in the crowd and when the Denmark team was announced over the PA system, all the names were roundly booed. That was in stark contrast to the jubilant cheers each Tunisian name received a few minutes later.
However, 10 minutes before KO and there are still plenty of empty seats.

What is at stake?
A good start to the World Cup is important for all teams, but it is particularly important for Denmark if they harbor ambitions of beating France for the top spot in Group D.
The Danes beat the world champions 2-0 during the last international break and will really feel capable of finishing above them in the group. Although, to have any chance of doing so, they need to beat Tunisia in the first game.
The African team will know that they face an uphill battle to secure qualification for the round of 16, but according to FIFA, they are ranked higher than Australia, so they should be in the best position to qualify should France and /or Denmark slip up.
They can force that exact slide in the first game against Hjulman’s team, but it certainly won’t be easy.

Denmark Manager Profile: Kasper Hjulmand
When Denmark had its general election in November, one of the people counting a batch of ballot papers was surprised to find a handwritten name on one of them: Kasper Hjulmand, the head coach of the national team, who according to one voter would be a worthy member of the Danish parliament.
Had Hjulmand declared himself a candidate, he likely would have received much more than that lone vote, such has been the rise in his shares since the Euros last year. Hjulmand was celebrated at that tournament for his emphatic and humane leadership after the Eriksen incident during their first match against Finland.
Denmark overcame their shock, reaching the semi-finals only to lose there after extra time, and a success that has changed Hjulmand’s life.
Those Euros transformed the coach into a national celebrity. He received hundreds of invitations to give leadership lectures or motivational talks. Among several other awards, he was named Denmark’s Leader of the Year, the first time the honor has been bestowed on someone from the world of sport.
