Monrovia- The president of Federation International de Football Veterans and Europe (FIFVE) and founder of the Veteran Clubs World Championship (VCWC), Fred Siewe has confirmed his engagement with some former Lone Star players to participate in the first-ever edition of the VCWC in Rwanda.

Ex-Liberia President and former Ballon d’Or winner George Weah is also confirmed to participate including Ronaldinho, Roger Milla, Michael Owen, Robert Pires, Jay-Jay Okocha, Miguel Pauleta and a host of other players in September.

Siewe also disclosed that he held conversations with both the Ministers of Youth and Sports and the FA President Mustapha Raji to ensure that the first-ever VCWC reached and make an impact in Liberia.

Said Siewe, “The new government is working hard to bring impact in football for the youth to develop and the VCWC believes they can be a key partner also to contribute to the development for the youth with their partner the United Nations (UN).

The VCWC was launched to serve as a way for former athletes to connect, collaborate, and contribute to sustainable development.

The inaugural edition was co-organized in collaboration with the UN through the platform Football for the Goals and the government of Rwanda.

He stated that the VCWC which is committed to the advocate for the achievement and implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), sees the collaboration as a partnership come from heaven.

Ex-Liberia President and former Ballon d’Or winner George Weah is also confirmed to participate including Ronaldinho, Roger Milla, Michael Owen, Robert Pires, Jay-Jay Okocha, Miguel Pauleta and a host of other players in September.

 

According to the organizers, the tournament is expected to kickstart in Kigali on September 10 2024, with 150 football Legends gracing the tournament.

He explained that the committee has divided the world into eight zones, stating that East Africa and South Africa have one team, West and Central Africa have one team, North Africa and Middle East have one team, Asia has one team, South America has one team, North America has one team and Euro has two teams while each of the team will have 15 male players and two female players respectively.

However, Siewe, who is on a three-day visit to Liberia emphasized that through the tournament young people can have ideas about how famous former footballers can impact their lives and how it can change the lives of young people in this country.”

He added, “That’s why the platform is ready to allow these former players to inspire and guide the next generation because the next generation needs to see the picture of former players’ success and that’s how they can grow and improve the challenges to become famous.”
