Monrovia – Top Liberian journalist Gerald C. Koinyeneh has been promoted to Head of Newsroom at FrontPage Africa. Koinyeneh has risen through the ranks at FrontPageAfrica, beginning as a volunteer in 2016, then advancing to senior reporter and deputy head of newsroom. He currently serves as President of the Legislative Press Pool (LEGISPOOL), which comprises journalists covering the Liberian Legislature.
FrontPage Africa’s Managing Publisher Koinyeneh has demonstrated commitment, dedication, and an unflinching willingness to learn the ropes of journalism in difficult terrain.
Announcing the promotion, Rodney D. Sieh, FrontPage Africa’s Managing Publisher, expressed his pride in mentoring enterprising young journalists eager to learn and always humble. He noted that Koinyeneh possesses these qualities and his hard work has paid off.
“Since his appointment as deputy head of newsroom, Gerald has demonstrated commitment, dedication, and an unflinching willingness to learn the ropes of journalism in difficult terrain,” Sieh said. “It is my hope that he will carry the same level of professionalism in his new role as Head of the FPA newsroom. This position is earned, and Gerald has earned it. I wish him all the best. There is no room for slacking, and I hope he knows it.”
Reacting to the news, Koinyeneh thanked Mr. Sieh for entrusting him with the role of head of newsroom at FrontPage Africa and promised to work with the “amazing team to make FPA the best always.”
“Since I joined this incredible team, your unwavering support and inspiration have been invaluable. Thank you for your guidance and encouragement, pushing me to excel,” he said. Koinyeneh replaces Lennart Dodoo.
About Gerald C. Koinyeneh
Gerald C. Koinyeneh is a Liberian journalist who started his journalism career at Voice of Tappita, a community radio station in his home town Tappita, Nimba county. In addition to his role at FrontPage Africa, he holds the position of president within the Legislative Press Pool (LEGISPOOL), a group of journalists covering activities of the Liberian Legislature. In addition, he is also the President of the Wildlife Conservation Reporters Association of Liberia, working with several pro environmental organizations to report on Liberia’s wildlife and rich biodiversity. He is a 2018 graduate of the University of Liberia (College of Agriculture and Forestry), and also obtained a diploma in journalism from the Peter Quaqua School of Journalism.
Koinyeneh was also a media trainer for the Journalists for Human Rights’ anti COVID-19 project called the Mobilizing Media to Fight COVID-19 Project. He also benefited from several media fellowship programs including New Narratives, the United States Embassy to Liberia’s journalism fellowship program and the United Nations Least Developed Countries’ Journalism Fellowship Program for the coverage of the UN 5th Conference for the Least Developed Countries (LDC5) sponsored by the Thomson Reuters Foundation (TRF), in partnership with the UN Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS). Through these programs, and with support from FrontPage Africa Koinyeneh has covered events and international conferences in Africa, America and Asia.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Koinyeneh is known for his devotion to his family, being happily married. He is deeply involved in mentoring both young and aspiring journalists, reflecting his commitment to nurturing talent within the industry. His approach to life is characterized by a positive attitude, rooted in his Catholic faith and inner strength, which he draws upon to overcome challenges and setbacks.
