Load shedding declared ‘Word of the Year 2022’ after beating Phala Phala
Perhaps the least appreciated word in the South African lexicon was announced as word of the year for 2022 by the Pan South African Language Board (PanSALB).
The Board said that the South African Word of the Year is a word, term or expression that sums up the past year in one language. Other terms that were in the running were Phala Phala, Inganekwane, Gaslighting, and Xenophobia.
Other words that were considered include Immigrant, Gender violence, iSigaxa sendaba and Wishy wishy.

Woman outwitted her kidnappers: A suspect died after being attacked by an angry community
A 21-year-old woman outsmarted her alleged kidnappers in Lydenburg, Mpumalanga, on Wednesday, November 9. She reportedly told the suspects that she needed to use the bathroom after she pointed a gun at her.
“It is alleged that three suspects driving a Nissan NP200 rear-ended a Toyota Fortuner. This was the suspects’ modus operandi, as they allegedly faked the accident to get her attention so they could kidnap her,” Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said.

Warnings issued for SEVERE thunderstorms in these areas on FRIDAY
HIGH level warnings for SEVERE thunderstorms were issued for several areas in South Africa on FRIDAY.
According to VoxTime, Level 6 warnings have been issued for the North West and the Free State, while Level 2 warnings have been issued for various other parts of the country.

Disabled 12-year-old boy from KZN ‘secretly buried’ in shallow grave
The South African Police Service (SAPS) has launched an investigation after Nondumiso Zondi, a 12-year-old disabled boy, was buried in a shallow grave without authorities being notified.
Zondi reportedly died alone on November 5, and was buried at his home on Sunday, November 6, the morning after he died. His father, Mdu Zondi (31), allegedly buried him in a shallow grave and did not report the death.
According to the Department of Social Developmentthe 12-year-old disabled boy with cerebral palsy had been bedridden all his life in the backyard of his family’s home and was out of school.
