Two girls, ages 12 and 15, drowned in KZN on Saturday

Paramedics said the two girls, both friends, drowned after they were swept out to sea by strong rapids.

The Mi7 National Group Emergency Medical Services were dispatched following a request for assistance from Police Search and Rescue teams in Park Rynie, South Coast.

“It is believed that their families were vacationing in the area, and the girls, aged 12 and 15, were playing in the surf when the current pushed them further in.”

Man sentenced to life for killing his mother in fight over money

The Verulam Regional Court handed down a life sentence to a Durban man on December 7 for the murder of his mother in 2021.

Shalendra Samath was convicted of killing her mother, Ormilla Samath. The 37-year-old man allegedly stabbed the victim multiple times in Everest Heights during a fight over money in July 2021. Samath then took the money from his mother and fled the scene.

The Verulam court sentenced the man to life in prison for murder and an additional 15 years for robbery.

Tony Yengeni, who once held the position of chief whip of the African National Congress (ANC), was informed that he was disqualified from contesting any National Executive Committee (NEC) seat at the party’s upcoming national elective conference.
