The next major storm system will develop mid-week across the central US, bringing heavy rain, some severe thunderstorms, and snow.

It will affect the Northern Plains, the Midwest, the Great Lakes and the interior Northeast.

Ahead of the cold front, above-average temperatures will make it feel like spring in the eastern third of the country.

In Washington, DC, a high of 60 degrees is forecast for Wednesday, comparable to the average temperature there for March 30.
