LACTS, Chinese Embassy Bring New Year’s Hope to Orphanage with Generous Donation

The Liberia Association of Chinese Trained Scholars (LACTS), in collaboration with the Chinese Embassy in Monrovia, has made a crucial donation to “My Brother’s Keeper,” an orphanage located in Careysburg, rural Montserrado County.

The donated items included mattresses, bags of rice, cooking oil, toiletries, disinfectants, etc.

LACTS President, Filmore Wiagbe, emphasized that this contribution is part of their Annual Charity and Donation exercises, reflecting their commitment to supporting underserved and marginalized communities.

He noted that a recent assessment of the orphanage revealed a compelling need for assistance, prompting this timely intervention.

Wiagbe expressed gratitude to the Chinese Embassy for their moral and financial support, which enables LACTS to make meaningful impacts in Liberia.

Receiving the donation, Ralph A. Gelego, Founder and Chairman of My Brother’s Keeper Orphanage, described the gesture as a miracle, highlighting the challenges faced in catering to less fortunate children since the mission’s establishment in 1997. He called on other goodwill individuals and organizations to emulate LACTS’ example in supporting the orphanage.

The donation committee, led by Emmanuel Boone Waydon, Sr., conducted a thorough assessment before selecting the orphanage, ensuring that their contributions address the most pressing needs. Mr. Waydon encouraged other well-meaning Liberians to recognize the importance of giving, especially when it can significantly impact the lives of others.

LACTS is a non-profit social and advocacy organization comprising Liberians who have studied in China, regardless of social status, religion, or political affiliation.

Their collaboration with the Chinese Embassy underscores a shared commitment to humanitarian efforts in Liberia.
