The Ukrainian military shot down nine Iranian-made Shahed drones in Kyiv airspace early Monday morning, the Kyiv military administration said on the Telegram messaging app.
“Air alert continues in Kyiv,” the administration said. “The enemy is attacking the capital with ‘Shahed’ bombing munitions. The air defense is working.”
Earlier, several loud explosions were heard in Kyiv and the surrounding region. Oleksiy Kuleba, the governor of the Kyiv region, said the region was under drone attack.
Reuters reported a witness as saying that there was a fire as a result of the attack in the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kyiv, which is often targeted.
Air-raid sirens were heard most of the night into Monday in Kyiv and the surrounding region, with new alerts declared at 5:25 a.m. local time.
On Wednesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the country’s air defense systems had shot down 13 Iranian-made kamikaze drones targeting the capital Kyiv.
It is also reported that two administrative buildings were damaged in the attack.
