A worker who was killed when he was struck by a construction vehicle while talking on a cell phone has been identified as a 53-year-old northeast Indiana man.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office said Tuesday that Todd Allen Ort, of New Haven, died Monday from multiple blunt-impact injuries. His death was ruled an accident after an autopsy, The Journal Gazette reported.
Indiana authorities identified that the construction worker died Monday after being struck by a vehicle.
Fort Wayne police said they were called Monday morning to the scene of a fatal accident at a Dreyer’s/Edy’s ice cream plant on the city’s north side.

Witnesses told officers that the man had been talking on a cell phone while working at a construction site just before the crash and was unaware that a construction vehicle was backing toward him.

Police said the driver of the vehicle was cooperating with investigators. A Fort Wayne police chaplain was helping grieving co-workers of the deceased worker.
