JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – HUAWEI South Africa has enhanced its status as one of the country’s top employers.

This is according to the Top Employers Institute rankings, which rank the tech company as one of the top 20 employers in South Africa.

Huawei said that while it has been accredited for six consecutive years, its improved ranking is a validation of the hard work it has put in for employee well-being and development.

Being certified as a Top Employer shows an organization’s dedication to a better world of work and demonstrates it through excellent human resources (HR) policies and people practices.

“We are incredibly proud of the strides we have made as an employer and honored to be recognized as one of the top 20 employers in South Africa,” said Huawei South Africa HR Director Daniel Jiang.

“In particular, we are proud to have seen improvements in our employee well-being rating, due to our programs for the physical and mental health of staff,” Jiang said.

Huawei also saw improvements in its diversity and inclusion score as a result of programs aimed at fostering a more unified workplace.

Jiang assured that Huawei South Africa will continue to build on its strengths and address challenges as well as areas that require further attention.

This includes addressing the major skills gaps in the sector.

“We have implemented different interventions to overcome this challenge, mainly through skills transfer and skills training,” Jiang said.

The company has focused on increasing its professional talent base.

“This year we have a large number of interns and graduates, who we hope will grow their careers within the organization,” Jiang said.

Huawei also leverages its ICT talent ecosystem, which supports training in the latest technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), cloud, and fifth-generation (5G) technology.

Huawei has trained more than 16,000 people in the past two years.

“We hope these interventions will take root and improve year by year,” Jiang said.

“Huawei is committed to our people, as well as their general well-being because we recognize that they have always been and will continue to be our greatest asset.”

This year, 11 Huawei representative offices received Top Employer accreditation, up from nine last year.

Mozambique and Tanzania now join Angola, Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda and Zambia.

David Plink, executive director of the Top Employers Institute, said: “Exceptional times bring out the best in people and organizations.”

“We have witnessed this in our Best Employer Certification Program this year – exceptional performance from the certified Best Employers 2023.”

Plink said these employers have always shown concern for the development and well-being of their people, and by doing so they collectively enrich the world of work.

“We are proud to announce and celebrate this year’s group of leading people-focused employers: Best Employers 2023,” concluded Plink.
