The musician is a Daystar graduate
Hellen, a graduate of Education, Bible and Music from Daystar University, has been in the music scene for a long time and it came as no surprise when veteran musicians Eric Wainaina and Achieng Abura called her to tell her about the project.

“I didn’t know Tusker was sponsoring this one, I went in, did the interview, they called me the next day and they shortlisted me,” Hellen said.

“Achieng called me and said that these people from Project Fame are going to call you, but this time they want you to teach, make sure you quote the best price,” he said.
Tusker Project Fame organizers offered KSh 1.7 million
The organizer of the big show wanted her to quote per session and Achieng called her and asked her to quote KSh 1.5 million. She was given KSh 1.7 million.
“Other than that, they were willing to give a car to pick me up,” Hellen said on the Kenya Diaspora Media YouTube channel.
When she began her work on the pageant, Hellen began facing backlash from the church because it was sponsored by an alcoholic beverage company.

“My mother called me and told me the Hapo Kuna tithe and I told her that if my mother approves, do you pay my rent?” asked Sondu’s talented musician Nyakach.
Pastor Adoyo defended Hellen
Her pastor also pointed out that she went to study music at Kenyatta University and went to teach everyone.
“Pastor Adoyo stood up for me, I was a big deal on Hope FM,” added Hellen, who also works as a music teacher.
“Other programs arrived; I did Premier voice, KTN’s I can sing and also got calls for Britains got Talent, but COVID-19 stopped me,” Hellen said.
The musician clarified that she is a performance artist and not a recording musician.
“As an artist, my voice changes when I go into the studio, it becomes tame,” he said.
Africa Online Vocal Contest
Hellen now runs the Africa Online Vocalist competition which recently included big names like Solly Mahlangu and South Africa’s Prophet Keke.

The renowned vocalist is married to accomplished musician Alfred Mtawali, a lead guitarist who also owns Mtawali’s band, which is home to his 32 brothers and sisters, all of whom are singers.
“I only have one daughter, she is 20 years old and now she is studying Psychology at Daystar University. At some point, my daughter used to complain that she was not available, but now she understands that we are both busy and trying to create time,” said Helena.
Hellen also comes from a family of musicians; Her father was a choirmaster while her mother used to sing alto in the choir.
“My mother says that I was a beatboxer in the womb. I used to lead the children to sing in Sunday school, when you came to my house, we would sing for you before eating, and after eating we would entertain you,” she said. .
Hellen went through grades 5 and 6 and then studied at Daystar University.

“Daystart hapondio nimekaa kama Mugabe.000 (I stayed a long time), I went to KBC to work on the Sing and Shine program and then I went back to Daystar,” he said.
“Mimi sijatarmac, my father was the one who introduced me to Daystar. He worked for the government, the Kenyan Air Force as an aircraft technician. When there was a coup, he was jailed for four years and when he got out, he was working at Daystar, where he rose through the ranks. from gardener, security, cook to bookstore manager,” said the vocalist.
“Through him, I got a tuition waiver at Daystar. I got a bachelor’s degree in Education, Bible and music,” he added.
The East African singing competition aired for five seasons, the last in 2013. Hellen said she invested her money well guided by her mother.
