A Georgia man is on the run after authorities issued a warrant for his arrest following the strangulation death of a 22-year-old woman and her unborn child, police said Monday.

“When I woke up, she was lying in bed. I went to wake her up like I do every day,” he told the news outlet. “She was lifeless, she was dead.”

Authorities began investigating the death. The autopsy revealed that she was strangled and that the fetus also died as a result.

Investigators believe 20-year-old Max Rocael Calel Sanic of Gainesville is responsible for the murder. He is charged with intentional homicide and feticide feticide. Authorities found his car, but he’s still missing.

“We live in a world where everyone is connected in some way, shape or form, so we’re sure he’s going to be connected to someone and hopefully they can lead us to him,” said Gainesville police Lt. , Kevin Holbrook.

José’s family said that Sanic was in the apartment before Juana’s death.

“I really don’t know what happened, maybe he got mad at her or something,” Jamie said. “They are friends, they are not dating.”

Investigators have not determined a motive for the killing. Anyone with knowledge of Sanic’s whereabouts is asked to call 911.
