Peter Chol Lueth grew up in Jonglei State, South Sudan, but was forced to leave South Sudan because of the civil war. His family traveled to Uganda to find safety. Starting over in Uganda was very difficult, and his family struggled to make a living to pay school fees for Peter. At one point, he was certain that he would not be able to continue his education.

However, a life-changing opportunity presented itself when a friend told him about the Leadership Academy of South Sudan (LASS). It reignited his hope of completing the next step in his education. After undergoing the application process, Peter was fortunate to be among the 50 scholars selected to join the class of 2018 to complete his A-level education at LASS.

Peter experienced profound personal transformation during his two years at LASS that brought him hope, inspiration, and a promising future. He reflected on his time, sharing, “LASS instilled in me invaluable lessons on leadership and entrepreneurship, as well as deepening my faith. I gained confidence and a newfound perspective on life, becoming acutely aware of my capabilities and identity.”

During his time at LASS, Peter served as the “Papa” of a care group named Chastity. Leading a diverse group of over 20 students presented both challenges and opportunities, which served as crucial preparation for life beyond LASS. It tested his leadership skills while also revealing his capacity for growth and adaptation.

He studied the HEG-ICT (History, Economics and Geography and Information and Communication Technology) combination at LASS, achieving excellent grades that paved the way for university admission. Upon graduating, he received scholarship offers from both Makerere University and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He prayerfully chose to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology at Kwame Nkrumah University under the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship. He chose sociology with the goal of using his degree to work for humanitarian organizations in the future. Peter is now in his final year at Kwame Nkrumah University, set to graduate in November. Studying sociology has led to a deep understanding of social issues and inequalities, empowering and equipping him to address root causes and effect positive change within East African communities.

Peter’s leadership journey since LASS has continued to thrive and grow. He is proudly serving as the President of International Students for both undergraduate and postgraduate students at Kwame Nkrumah University. Additionally, he holds a position in the 15th SRC Parliamentary Councils, representing the entire university. Peter recently received a Student’s Leadership Excellence Award from his University. This award is given to exceptional student leaders and faculty members. He credits these accomplishments to the foundation of teaching and mentorship he gained at LASS.

Peter’s ultimate aspiration is to serve as a role model for individuals from similar backgrounds, instilling hope and belief in their ability to overcome challenges and realize their potential and passions. He shares, “I am committed to empowering others. Today, I stand tall among my peers and have a voice to speak, because LASS gave me everything. I am immensely grateful to 4Africa and the staff who invested in me and helped me get to be where I am today.”

4africa is on a mission to empower and invest in Discipled Nation Builders like Peter, who will go on to lead strong families, flourishing businesses, servant governments, and healthy churches that will in turn produce more Discipled Nation Builders. Join us in building up Christ-centered leaders who are transformational in creating a redeemed and restored Africa.
