Firefighters worked for a second day on Wednesday to completely extinguish a fire at the drone plant of a US company in Latvia. Local police said nothing indicating sabotage has been found so far.

The Latvian State Fire and Rescue Service was alerted Tuesday afternoon that a fire had broken out at Edge Autonomy’s drone production plant in Marupe, a city bordering the capital Riga.

The Baltic News Service said that although the fire was largely contained by 7pm on Tuesday, firefighters continued to work to fully extinguish the fire on Wednesday morning.

Edge Autonomy, headquartered in San Luis Obispo, California, is a manufacturer of unmanned systems technologies and equipment, including drones for civil and military purposes. the US Department of Defense, the US Army and the US Marine Corps are among its customers.

The company’s Latvian drone production facility was established in 2009. Among other countries, the Edge Autonomy facility in Marupe has delivered drones to Ukraine.

BNS said the two-story drone production building with an area of ​​6,500 square feet and objects next to the building caught fire. He said two people were hospitalized while one person received medical assistance at the scene.

Riga’s main airport is close to the plant and Latvian public broadcaster LSM said the airport sent its own fire brigade to help put out the fire, which spread smoke in nearby areas. Flight operations at Riga airport were not affected by the incident.

Latvian police are investigating the cause of the fire at the facility. Police told local media that initial information did not point to arson, but a full investigation has been launched to find out precisely what happened.
