Springbok fly half Elton Jantjies, who was recently sent home from a tour of Argentina allegedly for having an affair with the team’s dietician, has joined French second division side Agen, the club announced on Saturday.

The 32-year-old, who has made 46 appearances and was in the squad that won the Rugby World Cup 2019, will join Agen, who is currently fifth in Pro D2, with immediate effect after signing a contract that takes him to the final of the 2023/24 season.

“Very happy to welcome Elton Jantjies this season and on 23/24. High quality support and experience for our young players. Can’t wait to see him wear Agen colours,” club president Jean tweeted. -Francois Fonteneau.

Jantjies already has some experience playing in France having made three appearances for Pau in the Top 14 in spring 2021.

However, he has not played in official competition since his last match for South Africa against Australia on August 27; he was left out of the team that is touring the northern hemisphere.

In September, Jantjies was sent home from Buenos Aires after media reports emerged about an alleged affair with the team’s dietitian; he dismissed the claims as false.

Earlier this month, Jantjies denied reports that he had spent time in a drug rehab clinic, but admitted that he had instead checked himself into a rehab center in Cape Town due to rugby injuries and for treat your insomnia.
