Police in El Paso, Texas, say a bystander “with a license to carry a gun” shot the suspected gunman accused of killing one person and wounding three others.
The suspect, a 16-year-old Hispanic male, is accused of shooting people after “a confrontation ensued” between two groups at Cielo Vista Mall on Wednesday night at 5:05 p.m.
The El Paso Police Department said the confrontation eventually escalated into a “physical fight,” and the 16-year-old pulled out a handgun and fatally shot 17-year-old Angeles Zaragoza, wounding another 17-year-old and another of 15 years. .
Police say Emanuel Duran, 32, who has a license to carry a gun, shot the suspect as he pointed his gun in the direction of more bystanders.

“As soon as the shooting ended, the 16-year-old suspect started running and pointed the gun in the direction of bystanders, including 32-year-old Emanuel Duran, a licensee to carry weapons. As the suspect ran toward Duran and passersby, Duran drew his pistol and shot the suspect,” Duran said.
Duran is also considered a victim in the shooting.

An off-duty El Paso police officer arrived on scene and worked with Duran to help the suspect and others who were injured.

Investigators learned that there were “at least” two other people who were legally armed, but were not involved in the shooting.
The 16-year-old suspect is in stable condition.
