The Chinese military had one of its biggest raids around Taiwan in recent weeks on Wednesday, according to defense officials.
Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense said 34 Chinese military aircraft and nine warships were detected near the island nation around 3 a.m.
“The Armed Forces have monitored the situation and have tasked CAP aircraft, Navy ships and land-based missile systems to respond to these activities,” the ministry tweeted.

Twenty of the detected aircraft had crossed “the median line of the Taiwan Strait and entered the ADIZ (Air Defense Identification Zone) of southwest Taiwan.”
Raids by the Chinese army are almost a daily occurrence. Beijing has continued to fly military aircraft near Taiwan in an effort to reinforce its position that the island is part of China.
